Sporting F.C. The Home Of Grassroots Football

Vs Millpool

On a very heavy pitch,we played probably our best game of the season.Great grit & determination from everyone.OK so we had a bit of luck for a change, but what fantastic effort from all of the players. Great goal from Ross, great play by the defence, great play from the midfield & great play up front. We've even found a new midfielder with more than enough grit & determination (Reece).
Also, well done the goalie for keeping a clean sheet.
M.O.M was justifiably the whole team.
Performances like this for the rest of the season lads, and we will go up

Vs North B'ham Celtic (Home)

Although ultimately we lost this weeks game we could not have hoped for a more whole hearted performance from all the lads.
Despite conceding an early well worked goal, we battled all over the park, from front to back, competing extremely well in the face of some fierce challenges.

It was great to see the way the lads took on the game.  Romelle, marked their centre forward out of the game, (so much so that he was eventually taken off) Ashley kept their left winger fairly quiet, even though he'd taken us apart in the cup 4 weeks ago, and Luke showed tremendous discipline to stick with his men, despite being pulled all over the back line.

The midfield protected the defence realy well, and sprang forward as a unit to assist Josh up front as he fought manfully to hold up the ball. We could not have asked for more, well perhaps a bit of luck in front of Goal.
1-0 down at HT we asked the lads to stick to what they were doing and we were sure we'd get somethign out of the game, and sure enough we equilised through Ross 10 mins into the 2nd Half.
In the next 10 mins we had kept them quite, and had a couple of chances to go ahead. Unfortunately we didn't take them, and as is so often the case in football, when you do this you pay for it, and sure enough we let 3 goals in, in the last 10 mins.

A 4-1 defeat is hard to take, especially when all over the park the lads have put in excellent performances, but thats football.
When you win we want you to win with style, but when you lose you should lose with grace, and on this occasion all the lads lost with grace and can be proud of that.

This week we could have given the man of the match to any one of the lads, but we have to pick one, so this week it went to Rommelle.

Vs Feckenham (Home)

Feckenham took the lead with a corner which was unmarked and went in the top corner. Sporting equalised with a tap in from James. Sporting pushed and pushed for the winner and they were rewarded when Joel volleyed top corner from outside the area to win the match. Carry on lads!!!

Vs Knowle (Away)

On a windy afternoon in Knowle sporting were victorious with a masterclass perfomance across the whole of the team and started off brightly with lively passing and a couple of chances. They took the lead when micheal recieved the ball in midfield area and slide an inch perfect pass a Josh slotted past the keeper. They went two nil up in the second half when a free kick by ALex flew past the keeper off an awkward bounce. Sporting rapped up the game when Ross darted down the wing and Josh converted with his head. Well done lads keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vs Knowle Juniors (Home)

On a very windy day Sporting were in the cup and they won 1-0 with a good goal from Josh. They are in the next round and should go all the way!!!!!!!

VS North Birmingham Celtic

A bad game resulted in a horrific defeat. Good performances by Josh and John but we need to wakeup and get back to winning ways against Noel!

Vs Phoenix (Away)

On a late afternoon kick off sporting were seeking revenge on their rivals but that wasnt the case. In the first half phoenix took the lead to make it 1-0. Josh shot from outside the box and went top corner which was an excellent response. But then horror struck when phoenix scored 3 goals in ten minutes so at half time the score was 4-1 phoenix. At the start of the second half it was sporting who got an early lifeline as Josh was fouled in the box. He got up to take the penalty only for the ball to bobble into the keepers hands. Sporting dominated the second half and had the chances to get a draw but it was an unfortunate day as they lost 4-1. Next game is a home cup tie hopefully the pressure of the league will wait and the lads can get there confidence back. SPORTING FOR THE CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy Souls (Away)

An action packed match leaded in a first league win for sportings u14s. The game kicked off and holy souls went ahead with a great finish but sporting then equalised with a well timed run from Josh put a shot bottom corner. Then just before half time Holy souls went ahead with a header top corner. So at half time it was 2-1 but then holy souls went 3-1 ahead when terrible marking allowed the forward to score. Sportings heads dropped but they got a penalty which micheal cooly converted with a great bottom corner strike so then it was 3-2. Then another mix up in the holy souls defence allowed Josh to chip the keeper and it was headed into the net by there own player. With three minutes left holy souls had the chance to win it when a one on one opportunity broke out but a great save from Ashley prevented it. In the last kick of the game Josh rounded the keeper and put it in the net to ensure a first league win for sporting. He was also man of the match. Well done lads and lets keep winning!!!!!!!!!!

Vs Phoenix

Sporting started off to a flyer with piling on the pressure and their best chance was when Ross crossed in but Chad could not reach it. Sporting eventually took the lead in the first half when Micheal slid a through ball and Joel slotted home. In the second half though sporting took a bad turn and Phoenix won the game 4-1. Lads keep your heads up as it is still a long season and you will definatly get promoted!!!

Knowle Juniors (Away)

On a windy afternoon in knowle sporting started off great with a couple of attacks and took the lead in the 6th minute with a cool finish from Josh Gardner.Knowle though fought back strong with an equaliser straight from kick off. Sportings heads didnt drop and Joel cooly converted past the onrushing keeper. Knowle again equalised with an unfortunate own goal but sporting went ahead again with a great finish by Ross. Knowle equalised again with a header which was a great save from Reece but was over the line. At half time the score was 3-3. In the second half there was few chances the pick of them when Micheal hit the bar with a great volley. Everyone thought it would go to penalties and extra time but a parry from knowles keeper give Josh an opportunity to score and cooly converted. Man of the match was James Magee with a great display in midfield. Well done lads and for the first time we are in the next round!!Keep it up

Vs Millpool (Home)

Disappointing start to the season, as although the effort was good from all the lads, we didn't really play and get the ball down as well as we can, and we were probably outfought in most areas.
Notably performances from James Magee and Jordan Butcher who battled away in the middle of the park, and from Ross Milman on our right flank, where most of our attacks came from.
MoM went to Ross
Improvement is req'd for next weeks cup game
