Vs Bidford Juniors

Bidford Juniors v Sporting F.C

Today should of saw us play our last game of the season, this was not
meant to be!

There were only 7 players at the meeting point, despite all the players
saying they were committed to play the game, this shows lack of respect
for their team mates, their league and their opponents!

It takes only 1 phone call to let me know but even this seems too much
trouble for some!

A GREAT THANK YOU TO THE 7 PLAYER THAT TURNED UP TODAY,

CONOR, KEVIN, TODD, WALLE, DOM, GARY & PHIL.

AND A GREAT THANK YOU TO THE OTHER PLAYERS THAT HAVE EARNED ME A FINE FROM
THE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!

Vs Local Leagues

Today's game started eventually after the away team arrived right on the
kick-off time, Sporting took the lead early on with a great goal from Phil
after a scramble in the goal mouth. 1-0. Sporting continued to battle but
Local leagues started to come back at us and wanted the ball more.

The second half saw Sporting fall behind with Local league's finding the
back of the home side net on three occassions, 1-3, then somehow Connor
scored a great volley which curved in past the keeper to bring the score
to 2-3. Local started to fight back and again found the back of Sporting's
net, 2-4 and final result.

Once again Sporting only had half the team wanting it and showing
committment, this showed again today as the defence and the right winger
was put under immense continuous pressure.

M.O.M

Goes to Gary, he showed total committment for the whole of the game, even
carrying an injury he  put in more effort than some supposedly "fit"
players. Welldone Gary, you deserved it.

Vs Continental Stars

Continental Stars v Sporting F.C

Today we turned up with a full squad, just about! This game was not a lot
to talk about, usual first half with Sporting making the other took look
like premier players and ending the half 2-0 down.

The second half saw much of the same, but Sporting did seem to want it
more, they did have a few flashes of inspiration where they ALL actually
worked together and for each other, but this did not stop Continental
putting in another 3 goals to make it 5-0 at the final whistle.

M.O.M
This went to the back 4, Walle, Kevin, Todd and Mikey, they worked hard
all the way through this game and it was only inevitable that they were
wore down due to the immense pressure put on them by both Continental and
Sporting players, well done to you 4.

Vs Maypole Juniors

Well what can I say,

A FANTASTIC EFFORT!!!!!!!!!!!

Today we turned up at Maypole's ground with 8 players, YES, 8 players,
with 1 injury and the rest, less said the better.

I personally wanted to call it a day, but the player's that turned up
wanted to play the game, so out of respect for them the game went ahead,
Maypole scored within the first couple of minutes and we thought we were
in for a thrashing, but Sporting stood firm and took on the might of
Maypole's 11 players, by half time Maypole had only managed to net 2
goals, this was down to the determination and committed effort of the
Sporting players.

the second half saw much of the same but it was Sporting that seemed to be
having more of an impact and it was Sporting that were givng Maypole
problems, there were some near misses from the Sporting side and some
dissapointment for the Maypole side, the game finished 3-0 to Maypole.

Today it was a pleasure to watch Sporting battle for every ball, there was
no lack of commitment from any of the 8 players, each and everyone of them
can hold their heads high, this was a victory of a different kind, no
points won but respect gained from everyone that watched the game. The
comments from supporters of both teams showed respect for the lads, well
done to you all.

M.O.M

This could only go to the team for determination and pride,

Conor, Mikey, Kevin, Walle, Gary, Phil, Dom and Ryan, well done to you all
for total effort.

Vs Arden Hall Colts

Arden Hall Colts v Sporting F.C

We visited the home ground of Arden Hall for the return leg of the league,
this was to be an important game for Sporting to try and get back on
track.

The first half saw some decent football from both teams, plenty of passing
and movement, but unfortunately not any shots at goal! half time 0-0.

After a few changes the second half again saw some decent passing but
Arden were the only team that was prepared to take a pop at goal and were
rewarded when they found the back of Sportings net, 1-0. The Sporting
forwards need to look at themselves and see what it is they need to do on
the pitch, movement and peppering the opponents goal! Arden fought well
and kept the Sporting defence under pressure throughout the whole of the
second half, this sae Arden again hit the back of the net, 2-0.

There are 11 players in a team, when midfield and the forwards are not
doing thier jobs this puts immense pressure on the backline, the backline
played their socks off, but without help it is only inevitable that they
cave in now and then, when they clear the ball you need to keep possesion
in midfield and up front, they need a breather also lads!

M.O.M

was awarded to Walle this week for never giving up no matter what was
thrown at him, well done mate!

Vs Santiago Colts

Sportinf F.C v Santiago Colts

Today saw the return leg between our two teams, thankfully the weather was
somewhat kinder to us at this meeting!

Sporting started off well with Ryan opening the score line with a tender
footed ball just rolling pass the keeper, his first for the season! Some
great football from both teams and another cross in from Cavan found Ryans
head for him to bang it pass the keeper to bring the score to 2-0.
Santiago went on the attack and managed to salvage a goal ust before half
time to bring the score to 2-1.

Start of the second half saw Santiago even up the score line to 2-2, once
again SPorting had to dig deep to fend off the attack of the opposition, a
foul awarded against santiago allowed Walle to take a perfect free kick
which hammered it's way home into the net, 3-2. The football went from end
to end and Gary managed to send a sweet shot pass the keeper to bring it
to 4-2. Well this must have been a shock for Santiago after their last
encounter with us, but true to form Sporting one again thought it was all
over, mid-field failed to get back to support their defence and Santiago
took full advantage of this and swamped their players forward wich allowd
them to even up the score within minutes, 4-4! In the final minutes both
teams went on the attack but it was the EXTRA determination of Santiago
that found them the winner right at the last minute, 4-5 and full time.
Some of the Sporting players never cease to amaze me, the do a bit, get
the lead and then think it's all over! IT AIN'T OVER UNTIL THE FINAL
WHISTLE LADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

M.O.M - Kevin O'Neill for some great defending and for continued effort
and determination.

VS Local Leagues

LOCAL LEAGUES v SPORTING F.C

Today saw Sporting field just 11 players again, against the second in the
league. The pitch left a lot to be desired, one goal mouth a mud bath and
very soft right down the middle.

Sporting played a battling game today, starting off attacking and
defending every ball at every turn, they wanted to show what they could do
and battle they did, there were some great performances from individual
players and the 6-0 defeat did not reflect the game at all. What ever
Sporting tried to do to change the game just did not come off for them,
but praise to Local Leagues for a great game and good luck for the rest of
the season.

M.O.M could of gone to a number of players today, but my decision went to
Gez McIntaggart for some great committment and tackling in the mid-field,
well done to you all.

vs Bidford Juniors

SPORTING F.C v BIDFORD JUNIORS

This was to be the first meeting for a couple of seasons for our teams,
and hopefully it was going to be a good performance.

Sporting started with 11 men whilst Bidford only managed to field 10 due
to illnesses etc etc. Well the first half of the game was nothing to shout
about although Sporting commanded most possesion throughout the half it
was Bidford that were to find the back of the net to end the half 0-1.

The second half saw Sporting play some excellent football, plenty of
passing and bidford only getting out of their own half when their keeper
kicked the ball from a goal kick! It was not to be Sporting's day as
everytime we attacked goal NOBODY wanted to take ownership and have a shot
on goal, plenty of passing in the box allowed Bidford to flood back and
relieve the pressure off the keeper. I think I counted 3 actual shots at
goal throughout the whole game! The game ended 0-1, well done to Bidford
you had a chance and you took it.

Lads, you played some great football today, but once again NOBODY wanted
to take a gamble and go for GOAL, at the end of the day the effort is only
rewarded by getting the ball in the back of the net, this we did not do
and looked unlightly to do so if we played another hour! Think on
lads.....

M.O.M

Gary Roberts for relentless pressure on the opposition and continued effort.

Vs Knowle Juniors

Knowle Juniors v Sporting F.C

Today saw us visit the home ground of Knowle Juniors, and once again, true
to form we were beaten by bottom of the league!

There was again only half the team showing committment, there was once
again only the same players putting it in...............

Knowle put up a show of committment and battled all the way to the final
whistle, credit to them and a well deserved win.

there was a couple of moments when we showed how we play, A great cross
from Dom and a equally great finish from Phil, and scrambled goal from Dom
and a great goal from Kevin, we can play football but we choose not
to.............

Knowle won the game 5-3, it is once again time to ask why is it the
wingers and defenders are scoring goals and forwards are not? Why is it
the same people that don't turn up for training tell those that do to show
committment. Well done to Knowle for a good performance, you got the long
awaited win.

I was dissapointed in todays lack of performance, you choose to come and
play for Sporting, the new year will bring new challenges, you WILL be
standing on the sideline if you don't perform, I will field less than 11
men if need be, you have been warned.

M.O.M went to Dom, he made some great runs and some excellence crosses,
his hard work helped us back into the game, well done.

Vs Coldland Colts (home)

Sporting F.C v Coldlands Colts

This was the return leg against Coldlands, the first half saw some
exciting football from both sides with the play switching from one end of
the pitch to the other and each team had some near misses on goal, 0-0 at
half time.

The second half saw Sporting up against some good teamwork from Coldlands,
the Sporting defence had to put in 110% to fend off the numerous attacks
from Coldlands. A free kick awarded to Coldlands saw our keeper get
lobbed, a great kick right in the top right hand corner! 0-1. Sporting
tried to rally and fight back but could not get a momentum to strike at
goal with every chance behind given away. Coldlands again attacked goal on
were rewarded by an unexcitng goal, 0-2. Sporting again tried to attack
and were awarded a penalty 10 minutes before time, this was duly converted
by Gary,1-2, an the end of the game.

M.O.M
Man of the match was awarded to the back line, they worked hard and well
under pressure for virtually all of the game. Well done to you all.

Vs Continental Stars (home)

this was the first meeting of the two teams and we knew we were going to
be given a good game. Sporting again started off playing the better
football and going forward every chance they got, Continental seemed to be
kept at bay on every attack on goal. The deadlock was broken by a over the
top ball from defender Chesney which found the foot of Gary who lobbed the
Continental keeper to open the scoring, 1-0 and the half time whistle.
The second half saw continental fight back and kept Sporting pinned in
their own half for a lot of the time, a scramble in Sporting's goal mouth
saw Continental draw level, 1-1. Sporting had stepped off the gas and
again were giving continental the chance to continue pressurizing our
goal. SPorting managed to fight for possesion and turned the cards as Gary
once again found the back of continentals net, 2-1. Continental would not
lie down and again went on the attack, Conor grabs the ball only to have
it taken from his hands and a goal is given, 2-2. This was turning out to
be a battle of the fittest as both teams started to dig deep for the final
winning goal. some quick passing by continental saw the ball once again in
Sporting's penalty box and another scramble saw it in the back of the net,
2-3 and the final whistle.

This was yet another good dislpay of football from Sporting, lets keep it
going and step up the pressure.

M.O.M

Micheal Palmer for some constant work in defence, well done and keep it
going.

Vs Glebe Colts (away)

Today saw the return leg against Glebe Colts, a 2 o'clock kick-off and a
local derby to boot, I went to this game somewhat beleagured as our last
few performances and committment have been a bit of a nightmare to say the
least!

But it was like having the old Sporting back on the pitch, dedication,
committment and hungry for the ball, today saw some great football from
both sides, Sporting opened up the scoring with a great controlled shot
from new boy Connor, this was soon to be followed by a great goal form
Cavan, 0-2.
the second half saw Sporting with their backs against the wall, with Glebe
taking advantage of the slope and the wind, a great over head kick from
Glebe found the back of the net to bring the score 1-2, the battle
continued from one end to the other, and battle it was, Cavan as once
again there to find the back of the net for Sporting, 1-3, Glebe were not
giving in a fought back at every chance and they too found the back of the
net, 2-3, minutes to go and Glebe win a corner, this was cleared off the
line by the head of Walle to keep Sporting in the lead, final whistle 2-3.

Today saw Sporting perform the football that we have come to expect, it
was a pleasure to whatch and reminded me why I was still managing the
team, well done to you all and lets get back on track.

M.O.M
This weeks m.o.m could of easily gone to a number of players today, but
after a great performance and a clearance to save the day, it was awarded
to WALLE, see what you can do when you actually play football! well done
matey.

Vs Santiago Colts (Away)

This was our first visit to Santiago Colts, The weather was poor, rain,
sleet & wind, but that's life and BOTH teams have to play in it! So my
dissapointment with the team is somewhat justified. Once again, half the
team wanted to play the other half just wanted to change positions and
moan about how cold it was! What's amazing is that although it is bad
weather to start hardly any of them bring along coats, jackets etc etc to
keep warm whilst standing around, the blue and black shirt ain't no
miracle peice of cloth!

Any way, back to the game, as I said only half the team turned up today,
we went down 3-0 by the first half whistle. Then came the second half,
SPorting did manage to get a goal back from winger Gary with the help of
Dom, 3-1, then it was all down hill from there! players just standing and
watching Santiago strikers walk past them! saying it was too cold too
play, well if you are standing still you get colder than if you are
running around! This attitude seemed to spur Santiago on to start running
rings around the Sporting side, at one point a think at least 8 of their
players were attacking the keeper whilst Sporting looked on! Santiago
showed some great spirit and managed to slot another 4 goals into the
Sporting net, 7-1.

I spoke to the ref to see if he could call it a day, but he wouldn't, does
the interest of the welfare of the players not take precedence any more?
Eventually some of the Sporting player's had had enough and decided to
walk off the pitch, game over.

Not a great game, but credit must go to Santiago for battling and taking
advantage of a weak side, well done to you all.

Vs Coldland Colts

Today saw our first visit to Coldland Colts in a league match, the first half was Sportings usual start, slow and half hearted from some players of the squad, credit to Coldlands for attacking every ball at every chance, there was some decent football played by both teams with Coldlands taking the lead upto the end of first half, 1-0.

The second half saw some changes in the Sporting side and yes, you've geussed it Sporting finally started to play football, some fight came back into the game and it seemed that Sporting actually wanted to win the game, a great goal from Cavan seemd to spur the team on, but coldlands would not back down from anyone and the final result was probably the fairest result for both teams, 1-1.

M.O.M
the team decided on the man of the match today as I couldn't choose between 3 players, their choice was Kevin for yet again showing 100% committment, well done!

Vs Maypole (Home)

Today saw Maypole visit our home ground, this was to be a tense match after our last encounter. Both teams played a good first half with Sporting having the main possesion of the ball, but it was Maypole that were to open the scoring with a lob of the keeper, 0-1.

The second half saw Sporting lose their shape, although we still had a good amount of possesion there was never any major attack on goal, there was no batlting up front and no battling in mid-field, this made me make some tactical changes which saw mid-fielder change places with a defender, this should not have been a major move, but it led to Maypole getting another 2 goals in 5 minutes!

Sporting loses 3-0, I don't know if it was the threat of me walking away, or what, but Sporting players need to take a long hard look at themselves, football is a team effort, if all eleven players on the pitch put in as much effort as the few then we would have a brilliant team, each player should be able to hold their own and the movememnt of one player should never have such an effect on a team..............think on people........Kevin, you play well in every game, 100% effort and 100% commitment, this makes it difficult for me!
think on for YOUR future.............

M.O.M

Walle for some great effort and some great football and Danny for some great defensive work and 100% effort.

Vs Hunters Moon (Home OPen Cup R1)

OPEN CUP ROUND ONE

Today saw us at home against Hunters Moon in the first round of the open cup. Sporting once again gifted the opposition a goal within the first ten minutes as they just were not up and running at the first whistle, this happens week in and week out and something that we MUST remedy swiftly! Sporting stepped up their game and matched Hunters on every occassion. Sporting was awarded a free kick just outside the oppositions box which Walle converted into a great goal to even up the scores. Some great football played by both teams saw the ball go from one end of the pitch to the other, both teams having chances on goals and both teams defensive players having a great game. It was only a matter of time before either team to score, this Hunters did with a great shot into the top corner of Sporting's goal, 1-2 and half time.
Second half saw much of the same, great defending, some great saves and some really good football from both sides. Hunters again managed to slot a goal into SPorting's net, 1-3. Sporting players rallied and started to up their game putting pressure on every player in the opposition. a couple of chances went astray until Ahsan managed to  lob the keeper and bring it to 2-3, game on and a continued pressure on the oppositions defence saw Sporting beakthrough and force the keeper to make a brilliant save to keep them in the lead, a number of chances failed to find the back of Hunter's net and we finally ran out of time, 2-3, final result.

This was a great game of football with both teams under pressure and both teams battling to the end, the ref's match comment say's it all, Sporting battled well and deserved a draw!

M.O.M

Mikey Palmer, some great defensive work and great battling.

Vs Knowle (Home)

This was to be the first time this season that Knowle were to field a full squad on the pitch, with the return of their keeper and all ten players. Sporting started off well against Knowle but once again gave the opposition more respect than they deserved. Sporting were awarded a penalty and this was duly converted into a goal by Jez, followed 2 mins later by a great goal from Phil, 2-0 Sporting. Some hard work from Knowle saw Sporting on the back foot on a number of occassions, allowing the forward to get a shot at goal only to be stopped by some great goal keeping by Aiden. Sporting again went on the attack and once more Phil manage to beat the keeper and slotted a nice touch into the bottom right hand corner, a counter attack saw Knowle  in Sporting's box and they managed to beat the keeper to get on the score board, 3-1. Knowle kept up the attack and a corner was awarded which they then converted into another goal, 3-2. Sporting rallied and took up the challenge going on the attack, some great football was played and Walle found the back of the net, 4-2, minutes before the half time whislte saw Knowle awarded a penalty for some shirt pulling, this was smashed past the keeper to bring the half time score to 4-3.
After the half time talk Sporting decided to step up their game and challenge every ball giving Knowle very little time outside their own half, Sporting were awarded a corner, a great ball in on to the head of Kevin and into the back of the net, 5-3. The sporting palyers launched some amazing attaks at the opposition with shots reigning on the keeper, hitting the bar and generally just missing the back of the net, A great shot from Cavan put the final nail in for Knowle when it passed the keeper to make it 6-3.

Once again Sporting showed the opposition too much respect, and once again we nearly paid the price for it, hats off to Knowle for battling to the final whistle, but well done Sporting for listenening and doing what was asked of you, you played football and you got the 3 points even though many decisions went against you and many decisions were not called.

M.O.M

Gary Roberts, this player ran his heart out today, with numerous attempts on goal, it is only a matter of time before you hit the back of the net, keep it up!

Vs Arden Hall Colts (Home)

Today saw us up against Arden Hall Colts, again Sporting went straight on the attack with the majority of play being in Arden's half. Some excellent team work and passing saw a number of near misses in the Arden's goal mouth. A number of times Arden did manage a counter attack but were dealt with fairly easily by the Sporting defence. A cracking ball from defender, Dom, went straight to the Sporting's forward Phil who did a superb volley to beat the Arden keeper, 30 minutes in and 1-0 to Sporting.
The second half saw much of the same with both teams having chances on goal, Sporting's goal keeper, Aiden, used his judgement and got it right on a few occassions when he was one on one with the Arden forward's to prevent them from levelling up the scores, some great goal keeping. 35 minutes into the second half saw Sporting awarded a penalty when the player was taken down by the keeper, This was easily converted into a goal by Sporting's mid field player, Cavan, to make the score 2-0.
Once again some great football and teamwork was played by Sporting, every player looking after each others back and giving support as and when needed, some great individual performances and a brilliant team effort. well done to you all.

M.O.M

Dominic Pierre for some excellent defensive work.

Vs Glebe Colts (Home)

We started the season with only half of Sporting's squad of last season, this was to be the first game that all the squad would be playing together.
The game started with Sporting taking on Glebe players somewhat nervously, some great football and some near misses from both teams. It was not until the second half that things were to change. After the half time team chat all the players took on board what was said and what was asked of them and take on the Glebe they did!
Within the first 2 minutes Sporting were 1-0 up from a ball that was cruelly deflected into the Glebe's net. From then on Sporting realised they could go forward and win. Credit to the Glebe, they pushed forward only to be beaten back by some great defending and some hard work form the centre. Final score was 1-0 to Sporting.
This was the first season that Sporting had no David Beckhams or Micheal Owen's on the pitch, every player backed each other and we played as a team with no individual greed, a great performance and definately the way forward, well done lads and lets keep it going!
